Session #: 046-150
Presenter(s): Panel Session Length: 1:15 hr.
Program: 2006 ULI Fall Meeting Date: 10-2006
The last decade has brought unprecedented change to the Denver area as a result of the closure of two military facilities and an international airport. The closure of the Lowry Air Force Base and the Fitzsimons Army Hospital Complex, both initially thought to have a devastating impact on the local economy, provided instead economic engines that fueled an unparalleled resurgence and sustainable development opportunities. The closure of the Stapleton International Airport and its relocation to a remote area to the east resulted in a win-win of a scope that continues to be realized. The old airport land is currently realizing its new destiny as a master-planned, sustainable community that has become a national model. Learn what made these efforts successful.
