Planners and developers constantly try to predict where regional growth will occur, aiming to channel the appropriate land use policy and infrastructure investment resources to facilitate responsible, sustainable, well-balanced growth. This case studybased session will explore state-of-the-art methods to predicting where, when and how regions will grow. Indeed, the research suggests that it is possible not only to predict when a new core will be needed in a region, but also the character of that core, paving the way for effective regional planning to efficiently and responsibly accommodate the employment, housing, educational, recreational, and civic needs of the growing region.
