From the days when cinemas were the anchors that drove traffic to other retailers, to the street performers of The Third Street Promenade, to Anschutz anchoring an entire district with an arena AND a live performance theater in LA Live, entertainment has been an ever-present component of retail district success. It has become a critical piece of "placemaking" and continues to be a consumer loyalty builder. How do large and small centers integrate entertainment into a successful formula and what lessons can be learned from the big kids like Cirque du Soleil, Anschutz, and the rest?
