Retooling Our Aging Active Adult Communities
|
Session #: 047-08
Presenter(s): Panel Session Length: 1:15 hr. Program: 2007 ULI Fall Meeting Date: October 24-26, 2007
As baby boomers age, age-restricted housing products are taking on different forms—they are not your father's Active Adult Communities (AACs). While some have aged gracefully, with golf courses converted to wide open spaces for passive recreation for people in their 90s, others respond to a brand new paradigm and redevelop to attract the over 55s. This session will present alternative approaches to AACs, from independent living communities that are no longer able to attract younger residents and morph into assisted-living enclaves, such as the original Sun City; to the communities that successfully rejuvenate themselves by appealing to a wild and crazy buying segment. Speakers will share their strategies and rewards of both approaches and the ways to maximize the opportunities.
