Even though real estate has generally lagged other industries in recognizing the competitive advantage of sustainability, there are some notable examples of how developers have integrated it successfully and profitably into their business models. This session will include an overview by a leading sustainability expert who will address the main issues, options, and decisions facing sustainable projects. A panel of developers and industry experts will discuss successful sustainable practices lessons learned. How have their companies integrated sustainability into their projects and products, and at what cost? How have they managed their sustainability efforts? How much is sustainable development consumer-driven versus entitlement/government–driven? What are the true benefits to those who have pursued sustainability? What metrics are used to determine if their sustainability practices have created value? Panelists will represent the housing, industrial, and recreational and resort communities.
