As real estate companies evolve from the founding generation to the next evolution, a complex set of financial, managerial, strategic, and market factors come into play. The real estate industry's growth from the 1960s to present was fueled, in part, by a rich legacy of family and partnership founders who have successfully bridged the generations with well-orchestrated succession plans that enabled their respective brands to continue in either private or public vehicles. Examples will be drawn from large firms such as Forest City, Simon, and Hines to small and medium sized companies such as Koll, Charles River Park/New Boston Fund, Fisher Brothers, and Williams.
